Five things Friday: Hunting for lobster tail

Five Things Friday is a post where I share five things that either made my week (good or bad), what I am thinking about, or would like to share with all of you!

Last minute presentation

Oh how I love doing last minute things. I was slated to present my quality improvement project in September to report the changes I’ve done in the last year but it moved up to this month and I was informed last week. When I got the news, I was not mentally prepared to throw something together and present it to the department heads. Also, not to mentioned, I was not mentally prepared to come in and present on my day off (I am not scheduled to come into work on Mondays).

Originally, my colleague was suppose to present his quality improvement project but he’s been out the last several weeks (long story). He’s been out so long, I think we are leaning towards him being MIA. Instead of holding our breath for him to show up, they decided to push my presentation six month ahead. Here’s to throwing everything together in two weeks. Wish me luck!

Deleting old Instagram posts

…Well you must have a lot of free time. For those who don’t have any time to delete loads and loads of social media post, that’s okay. You can leave it alone. I understand people evolve.

Picky Adult Eaters

Last week, my sister wanted to organize a get-together with family but was not sure which restaurant to go to. She delegated this task to me. To be honest, I was dreading to be the one to pick the restaurant because my sister and brother-in-law are INCREDIBLY picky eaters. It took me some time to research places to go — I was not sure where picky eaters like to dine out. To make my search more efficient, I created a list of restaurants I would eat. I was optimistic believing maybe, just maybe, they’d change their palette. Ultimately, they did not select anything from my list. Instead they selected what my husband calls a “bland standby.” In fact, my husband was hoping I would sway their choice to something more adventurous.

The truth is I don’t think anything of this restaurant they selected. I actually like this place too. Also, even though picky adult eater miss out on a lot of great food, I’d rather appease picky eaters than to convince them to try something else. I’ve seen the worst of picky eaters for both child and adult. To them, being in a place where none of the food appeals to them is hell. Sometimes picky eaters burst into tears where the food itself seem to attack their sense of self. There were times where I’ve had my sister, brother-in-law(s), and nephews leave my house (not at the same time) because they did not like the food I served though they never had a bite. This is why when my family comes over to my house, I serve food from appetizers to dessert — like a buffet. If that picky eater ate only the mash potatoes, at least it placates them to stay. If I knew and understood better about the psychology of picky eating, I would intervene.

Coronavirus

I work in a hospital. We dutifully push everyone — colleagues, volunteers, visitors — to wash their hands. On my social media feed, I see all my non-healthcare contacts preaching the importance of washing your hands. A little part of me is concerned because I wonder what did they do hygiene-wise before Coronavirus?

I do find the price-gouging for three 8 oz. of hand sanitizer on Amazon incredibly ridiculous. Hand sanitizer at Walmart is 3.97 for one 30 oz. bottle.

Seafood

I did not have any seafood this week but I am obsessed with an Italian pastry called “sfogliatella.” In English it is called “lobster tail.” Now only if I could find one in a bakery in Los Angeles. I will keep you posted on my hunt for lobster tail.
