Eat around the World: Food you would bring to a feast

Happy November 1st! This time of the year is my favorite time of the year food-wise. It’s a time where I go through a kitchen experiment kick from October to December. I get to experiment with different recipes I’ve been eye-balling all year around. I don’t know why I wait until the end of the year to play in the kitchen. I guess maybe I have a reason to make different dishes at the end of the year — we have Halloween, Thanksgiving with family, Thanksgiving with friends, Thanksgiving at work, tree trimming party at work, White Elephant Party, New Year’s Eve party with friends, etc. Side note: Now because I have a food series on my blog, I think I’ll get to play with food all year around.

Here is a cheeseball I made for a tree-trimming party at my office from a couple years ago. At the time, I wanted to work on food presentation. I covered it with almonds to make it look like pinecones. Also at the time, I was obsessed with persimmons, so I made persimmon chips. Not pictured are the rest of the dishes at the office and the crackers and slices of bread.

Cheeseballs are overall really easy to make. Here are some cheeseball recipes to try out:

  • Cooking Classy – I used this recipe with some modifications. Instead of walnuts like the picture, I used almonds to make it look like a pinecone.
  • Devour Dinner – covers their cheeseball with cranberries.
  • Cafe Delites – This cheeseball is covered in olives and has sun-dried tomatoes.

With the upcoming festivities, I can’t wait to share more!

Eat around the World“ is a monthly writing/photography challenge where I invite people to share a dish around a theme, ingredient, or technique. November is a feast and you’re all invited! To participate you could either share your post in the comment box, pingback to this post, or tag “Eat Around the World.” Deadline is November 30th. Happy feasting!

  1. This is such a stunning centrepiece, Julie! Edible art!
Thank you for these handy links to cheese balls – I hesitate to term yours such as it is not what a plain ole cheeseball is in my memory!
